Simone Arianne Biles

Simone Arianne Biles, /sI'moUn/baI@lzwas born on 14 March, 1997. Biles is tied with Shannon Miller for the number of Olympic medals won in American gymnastics, and is currently the ninth highest. With 25 World Championship medals won, she is the highest-ranked gymnast from the history of the Gymnastics World Championships. Many believe that she may be the most successful gymnast of all-time. Joe Biden awarded Biles the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Biles received individual gold medals in the all-around, vault, and floor; bronze on balance beam; and also gold in the context of the United States team, dubbed the "Final Five".At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo Biles was a participant. Biles was expected to win at most four of the six available gold medals, she was unable to withdraw from the majority of the contest because of her difficulties with "the twisties" and a temporary loss of air balance. She eventually won an Olympic silver medal for the US team as well as a bronze medal on balance beam. The judges praised her partial withdrawal, mental and physical health focus, perseverance and determination to be in good health. She is also five-time World all around champion (2013-15, 2018-19) and five-time World floor exercises champion (2013-15 and 2018-19) and three-time World balance beam champion (2014-15 and 2019) and two-time World vault champion (1918-19), 2021) seven-time United States all-around champ (2013-16 and 2018-19, then 2021) and a member of the gold medalists on the American team at the 2014 2015, 2018 and 2014 World Arts Gymnastics Championships. She also is a World silver medalist on the the vault and balance beam (2013 and 2014), as well as a threetime World bronze medalist in vault (2015, 2013, and 2018 on uneven bars).
