Moss (born February 13, 1977) is a former American football player. He played
in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons with the Minnesota
Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and the San
Francisco 49ers. Along with Jerry Rice, he is often regarded as the best wide
receiver ever. He holds the NFL single-year touchdown reception record (23 in
2007) and also the first NFL single season touchdown mark (17 in 1998). He also
ranks second in the NFL all-time regular seasons touchdown receptions with 156.
Moss is famous for his ability to catch contested passes. The word
"mossed" is a term that has entered the football vocabulary, was
widely used due to the fact that he was a successful. Moss began his career as
a studio announcer for ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown and Tuesday Night Countdown
shows. Moss was born in Rand, West Virginia. He attended DuPont High School. It
was one of two schools which was later amalgamated into Riverside High School.
There the student excelled at football, basketball track, as well as other
sports. Randy was also a member of the school's debate team. Moss was the
captain of the DuPont Panthers football team to two consecutive state
championships in 1992, 1993. The position he excelled at was wide receiver. But
Moss also played safety for free as well as punted kickoffs and was the team’s
punter and kicker. He won the Kennedy Award for West Virginia Football Player's
of the Year in 1994. Parade magazine named him to their All-American high
school football team in the year 1995, and in 2009 the magazine named him among
the top 50 football players from high schools ever.
